Default Removing Headlight 09 NT

Just wondering how hard it is to remove the headlight from an 09 Night Train. Just got myself some Wrinkle Black paint, some 320grit paper and self etching primer and am getting itchy to pull it off and spray the light in this fashion.

Does the tank have to come off, or is there a way around it?

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Cheers, NT

Pull the tank or tape and paper off the entire front end except the light and do it that way. My light is rattle can and the ring is PCed.

from what i remember the tank doesn't have to come off to remove the headlight. seems like it's just a nut on bottom and the ring that holds the light housing in. it has been a while sorry, but it was easily removed from what i remember.

btw nice looking train...

there's a bolt on the bottom of the Trip Tree that holds it on.

Good luck with that. I am getting ready to pull the head light and some other front end stuff on my 09 fatty... i have already painted some parts with some flat black rattle can. It looks great! i would pc some of it but just don't have the cash with the economy the way it is. Hope it turns out for you !

The mounting block unbolts from the bottom triple tree. Pull the headlight out of the housing and you should be able to pull the wires out of the headlight shell if you take the plug apart. Make sure mark where the wires go in the plug so you get it back together right. I just had mine off to powder coat the headlight and ring and never had to touch the gas tank.

I couldn't get the wires out of the housing to save my life. and i'm hoping he was asking about the wires and not the obvious bolt on the lower steering head

Ok, so i think next time i'll be definetly removing the tank and pulling the headlight off as one piece.

Here's what happened. First step was to pull the trim ring off, this was no problems. Then the headlight inner + bulb falls out easily still attached to the wires though. Have to remove a cap off the fuse housing, then pull 3 wires out of it, which were quite a pain in the ***. And remove 2 wires joined to the bottom of the headlight. Then, where the wires come through the headlight housing, is a rubber plug, which i guess is to stop moisture getting into the light, i had to put a cut in this plug to push it through the small hole in the headlight housing and continued to pull the wires through, they only just fit, and you have to pull them through one by one.

Next step is to undo the bolt below the block holding the headlight on the triple tree. I also removed the bracket from the headlight housing so i could sand around the piece easier. And i tell ya what, Superman must have done that bolt up.

Next time think it will be easier to slide the tank back, undo the plug, and just tape the headlight up. It'll be amazing if it works when i put it back together .

My 2 cents.
