Missed the part about slip-ons.. In that case no.. although a bad seal before baffles changes air fuel mixture. Probably not enough to make a difference if it's only a small leak.
Just wondering, but would taking off and putting back on mufflers loosen the pipes at the heads? Enough to cause a leak?
Hey Jim, I am having the EXACT same problem.
I had the Rush 2" on. Ran like sh&t, so I took them off and went back to stock. After I put the stock back on, pinging. I am thinking a f'd something up and am now getting exhaust leaks. (maybe)
I didn't do anything else in terms of upgrading air cleaner or IED's. Just through on the slip-ons.
If/When you do take it to the dealer, I would really like to hear about what they found.
PM me
Ryan
That's not encouraging Ryan. I should know the outcome in about a week and I'll let you know. What I already know is that it's not normal. Wife and buddy both have 08s and not a ping out of either one. Both use the same gas I do.
Since the bike has previously ran fine with these 1.75 slipons and IEDs only thing I can think of is that the packing has disintegrated and they're now pulling too much air through the engine. We'll see.
I'm doing a demo Friday on a 2010 Streetglide. Maybe this is a sign it's time to trade in.

The bike ran better with the Rush pipes on then now with the stock pipes on.
With the Rush pipes on, I got a lot back pressure and some back-firing on decel. I also lost some torque in the bottom and top ends. The stock pipes have brought back up the torque a bit, but not like it was before the slip-ons were put on.
As soon as I put the stock pipes back on, pinging. I haven't switched my gas. Gas stations have been different, but always 91 Octane. Thats the highest in NS you can get.
No other mods. I also did a self-diagnostic and nothing. Also, she is getting warm. Especially with the warmer weather.
I think (hoping) that all she will need is a Stage 1 Air Filter and a good ECM and maybe a Dyno to get the best out of her. Crossing my fingers thats all it is and it's nothing serious inside the engine.
What do you all think? Just a good tune, or is it more then that?
Took bike for first run minus the IEDs. Still pings which is no big surprise. No more O2 sensors codes which as BlkChrome indicated were from the IEDs.
Now off come the slipons and we'll see if we still have the ping problem.
Ryan, did I understand you correctly, your bike didn't ping until you put the stocks back on? If so it doesn't seem to make much sense.

Yep. It doesn't make sense. BUT, it also wasn't hot when I took them off. It was early May. The pinging didn't start until late June when things really started to warm up. I have heard heat has to do with some pinging.
I want to wait and hear from your experiences first, before I take mine in. It's got to go in for sure, but want to know what I am talking about first.
This is getting interesting. Took slipons off and now bike is totally back to stock. Pings more than ever, so bad it's barely ridable. Going to the dealer tomorrow.
Don't know squat about these ecms but I'm going to disconnect the battery overnight and see if it resets the ecm back to the stock map. Seems to me the ecm would adapt to the new pipes on the fly but I'll give it a shot anyway.

No kidding!! Huh, that's weird. Mine only pings when I really honk on the throttle. Usually only in 4th, 5th and 6th gears.
Does your ping when idling or when you open the throttle?
Let us know what the outcome is when unplugging the battery.
you can fix the issue by removing the IEDs and install 330 ohm resistor in place of the o2 sensor and run open loop and run cooler until you get a real fuel management.
