thanks but it's not a heat issue. Wife and my buddy have 08s, run the same gas and under the same conditions. Zero pinging problem up to 250 degree oil temp.

Does your ping when idling or when you open the throttle?

Let us know what the outcome is when unplugging the battery.
No it doesn't ping while idling. Just when rolling on the throttle but real bad now. And it'll even do it starting off in first. Gotta be a bad sensor or ecm issue imo. I'll be talking to the service dept tomorrow so I'll let you know how it pans out.

the resistors will let the bike run in the richer open loop and if it still has issues then it is a leak or wire or plug or ?

Keep us posted on what they find if you do bring it to the dealer. I still think you have a temp sensor problem. It may be thinking its cooler than it is and has the timing too far adv, just my thought

Try squirting some oil around the intake manifold mating surfaces, if you have a leak you will get smoke out the exhuast when the oil is sucked into the intake

Try squirting some starter fluid around the intake manifold mating surfaces, if you have a leak you will get increase in rpm. less mess than oil but same ideal

I spoke to the dealer about pinging when mine did it when it was stock. I got the "it's normal" response. It only pinged under a heavy throttle in higher gears, like 5th and 6th. Never had the RPM race on me. I did the stage 1 mods last year and was able to tune out the pinging with the PCIII. I have had no intake or exhaust leak issues. It has never missed a beat here in 115 degree riding and up to 12000ft in CO. The racing RPM sounds like a warranty issue to me. Could have nothing to do with a leak and just with the ECM and idling.

Reconnected battery and bike still pings. Heard some even at 150 oil temp. Got easier to induce and more pronounced at 210-220. So it's off to the dealer today to see what they have to say. Not going to accept that it's normal for a stock bike running 92 octane to ping like that. Especially when the wife's same year bike doesn't.

Don't mind putting a FM on a bike with mods but not doing it on a stock bike.

Thanks for all the tips on how to check for airleaks. I pulled the football and used propane to check all around the intake and could detect no sign of a leak.

Found something interesting. When the engine is at normal temp the propane at the tb increased rpms but when the bike got hot it decreased it. Don't know what that means if anything.

I'll post back when I find out what the problem is or when I have a new bike

see if you get the same change at the Tb on your wife's bike. I dont think it is normal to change like that

That was a great idea TK. Thought you were on to something but alas, her's does the same thing. Interesting, just the same.
