I skipped the few pages after the initial page but got the scoop.. I had the same problem with pinging on my stock 07 FXST. It wasnt bad till I took it up Parley's Pass here in Utah and needed a bit extra and wasnt getting a thing. Knowing I was going to get a new air cleaner, I pulled the cover and cut most of the black plastic backplate away. No more pinging and can run up the pass at 100 mph with no pinging problem now. I'm still running the stock pipes as well.

Might wait even longer until I can afford the D&D Fat Cat exhaust.

I haven't had much warranty work done either. Just the rubber seal for the front master cylinder. It went all wrinkled on me and started leaking. I just happened to ask how much replacing that rubber gasket would have cost me. $81!! I just about sh*t myself. Nobody ever said only a Harley would be cheap!!
The place I am taking my bike to said that anything to do with the pinging, Flash etc. will cost me nothing. We'll see. I'm sure they will try and through in a 'thats not covered' sh*t with some of it.

Ryan
Rush slipons were on my bike for about 10k and it ran fine with them. 42-50 mpg. Most likely some other issue.

Jimmers - I have the same problem with 07 E Glide and am wondering if you found the problem. stage 1 w/ krome wurks mufflers, big sucker intake, and Night Rider fuel management. Bike is ok until hot, then fast idle, pinging , and heat climbs fast.

Picking the bike up today. They told me they addressed the intermittent racing engine with an updated ecm download but that they couldn't get the bike to ping.

I'm hoping they tried this before the download and that the two issues are related. If it's still pinging, they're going to get an earfull because the pinging was readily apparent.

Also said they couldn't replicate the stalling issue. Again maybe it was all related to the download.

Default Good News

Picked bike up and no more pinging. Before it would ping at 150 oil temp and get progressively worse as the bike warmed. At 250 it was barely ridable.

Now I can't get it to ping at any temp all the way to 250.

Guess the updated flash to the ecm fixed it.

its not from changing slip ons, sounds to me your safest bet would be to take it to the dealer and let them look at it. its safer than just troubleshooting it yourself. replacing an engine costs a lot more than the dealer checking he bike out.

Hey Jim, I am taking mine in next Monday. They are downloading a Flash as well. I'm glad the flash fixed your problem. Makes me feel a little more relaxed knowing that this could be my problem to.
You putting the slip-ons back on?

Yea, the flash will probably fix your issue also. I wonder if all 08s will eventually need the update, my wife's in particular. Her's runs fine now but so did mine until recently.

I'll probably put my 1.75s back on. Might go stage 1 down the road but first I'd like to put some new bars on it.

Let me know how you make out at your dealer.
