So you say the shops would do that? I've been hearing some guys at work say they won't patch/plug tires.

I'd be buying a new tire. My piece of mind is well worth the cost! I'll be damned if I'm gonna go down because I was to cheap to buy a tire.

Most motorcycle shops won't even plug or patch ,as it is a major liability issue. if you notice most shops don't even stock plug kits anymore...

but that's just me....

Using patches and plugs for over 35 years and have never had a failure. Never heard of anyone else having one either. Worse case you get a leak, just like you most likely did with the nail puncture. Not a catastrophic failure or sudden loss of air.

Personal choice but I'd be hard pressed to throw away a new tire with nothing more than a nail hole in it. Patch and new tube for me.

i just had the same dilemma....ive had my bike for a lil over a week and some ******* slashed my front tire (on the tread).....i did not want to have to worry about a patch leaking air and getting stranded an hour away from home so i bought a new tire....and a tube.....

my bike is garage kept and rarely sits out...what a dick move

Exactly what I would do/have done.. The rope plugs work just fine in the rear tires but can cause a balance issue in the front, hence patch the front.. I've patched a lot of small holes over the years and never had a problem.. I damn sure wouldn't throw away a brand new tire.. All this is assuming the hole in in the tread and not in the sidewall.. Sidewall is a different story..
