how can one tell if the cam adj. shoes are wron bad enough to replace
with out taking the engine apart ?? also what is the lowest mileage hd will replace them under warrenty

Mileage has NOTHING to do with it... HD warrenty is Time based.....

And you do not need to do a major teardown to access them......

It is a nosecone.... that is it....

I upgraded to S & S 510 gear driven cams at about 27K miles. My rear show was pretty well worn, but the front shoe was okay. I kept up on all maintenance and usually had my oil changes done early. FWIW.
