Ok well i welcomed my self to the forums a few days ago and finally able to get on her post some pictures and hopefully get some god info.,., I havea 1987 Softail i just recently bought got a great deal on it and looking to get it back to great condition. Its been sitting for about 7 years and im taking to a shop its getting new tires.,., carb rebuild.,., battery.,., fluids flushed.,., and complete tune up.,., about $1300,.,., Its got alot of surface rust on the bike so im wondering the best way to get rid of that.,. , well here are the pictures im looking to get a diffrent seat pipes and rims.,., like what size tires would look better on the bike? any help would be apreciated.
I like that bike. It looks comfy like a well broken in pair of gloves!
They sell good rust remover at Ace hardware....Its certainly worth a shot.
If it were me I would put the OEM sized 21 front rim with a 90 tire....But you may prefer the better ride with that heritage wheel..... Back tire is a 130/16 unless you do some minor modding its all that will fit.
I like that seat. It matches the bikes theme right now. Change the theme change the seat. Is it not as comfy and cozy as it looks?
nice ride, rare find, that model with that custom paint sheme. i got the same one in the shop, looks as though some one over the years has changed the frount end over to the heritage fender and wheel, go after that rust with the fine steel wool, there are products available from Peterbuilt that help with the clean up of tarnished crome.
Nice! I've got an 89 Custom. I have the 21 front and love the way it looks. If you trade out your seat, give me a holler. I would love to have an original 2up seat.
Very nice looking bike. You won't find a more comfortable seat than the one you have on there. I got mine off of ebay to replace the one that was on the bike when I got it. I'm going to be 70 years old next month, and I can ride all day on mine. Besides, I like the look.
