Thinking about an engine guard for my deluxe. Main reasons are for highway peg mounts, rather than protection or looks.
On the looks front, I like the "nostaligic" one best, but HD only recommends a few highway peg clamps (one on the list doesn't even show on the website as a real Part Number). I assume it's because of the curve of the bar, there's no flat spot for a clamp. I got the Deluxe because of my short legs (among other reasons), so I'd like to be able to adjust any mount to find a comfortable spot.
Is anyone using peg clamps with the nostalgic bar they could recommend as fitting well and being pretty adjustable?
I don't like the "mustache" bars or the Lindby bars, because I think the location of the built in footpegs will be way too high for me to be comfortable. The other option is just the "regular" bar, which I assume I can find ton of clamp options (again, a recommendation for a good one would be appreciated).
I've got the regular bar on mine with some pegs. Works great. I've also got that pesky "short leg" syndrom and didn't think I'd be able to use the pegs that much. But they work nicely. I have them swung around a little more forward and then the pegs are adjusted out at an angle so that my feet can reach and sit very comfortably. I don't know much about the other bars...but I can recommend the regular one. As I see it, the more choices I have for pegs the better.
The moustache bars are fine for pegs and if you have short legs you probably want the adjustable extender types. I have the HD 360s and they work fine.
The bars don't go as high as the standard bars so you're limited as to how high you can place the pegs.
I have the standard h-d bar with my pegs mounted just higher than the boards. I also have the harleygoodies board ext. I can put my feet on the pegs while my heels are resting on the boards. its like having forward controls and boards at the same time. very comfy and almost infinite range of movement.
Wife has the Nostolgic engine guard, and the HD Long angled adjustable peg mount Part number 50829-07A
This is the third set of mounts on these bars, with no problems whatsoever. All of them fit fine, She simply wanted different looks untill she got the look she was after.
if you dont want an engine guard why not some kuriakyn markIII or markIV
2nd that, one of the BEST MODS ive done. KURYAKYN MARK 3 CRUISE ARMS. They also have the MARK 4, but i opted for the 3. VERY NICE, wish i did it years ago.
