Another vote for go for it!! I love mine. They are comfy as hell, and help my riding position. I am 6'2" and hated having to crouch over when riding. I have had several back related problems, and the apes will help in that area. Good luck bro!!
I went with apes mostly for the same reason. And Now, no more back aches or neck hurting me. I love 'em and wouldn't go back to my drag bars for anything.
Look like most of you guys agree that apes is the way to go, but the question I have is that for a short guy who is around 5'6", what's the best height of bars that I should get? and is it better to get the bar with more pull back? Thanks.
I used to be the same way, hated apes, always NEVER! I bought the RK Custom because I loved the look of beach bars, HATED riding with them, wrist, elbow, lower back, all kinds of issues. Went w/10" mini W1 chubbies (i still wasnt convinced when I made the change), much better in all catagories, now I want to switch out to either 14's or 16's, havent decided which yet! Go for it!
I love the Apes on my Rocker and plan on putting them on my Road King as well. They look cool as hell and are surprisingly very comfortable. Theres one and only one negative. Around town and up to about 65 they are awesome, start going 70 or above however and the wind is brutal. If you have a shield this is not an issue but if you don't keep that in mind. You become a giant flag in thwe breeze. I find doing over 70 to be a real chore and sometimes down right scary.
I like apes too, just don't get them too high (above shoulder) or may be exchanging lower back pain for rotator cuff injuries. I can ride a bike with my lower back pain but with a rc injury I'm out of action as far as riding is concerned.
I got rearended on a bike last year and the new harley has drag bars with a 6 inch straight riser, makes me lean over, so i have that same lower back pain. I'm going to swap over apes but trying to figure out what size. I'm thinking 16 with a riser, not sure yet though. I'm 5.9".
