While we are on this subject, I need some advice. My new bike has alot of chrome on it and it stays out in my 1 car garage. Its unheated but its a 6 car garage. I know that didn't make sense but I own a condo and theres 6 garges side by side, I own one. I was wondering what I could do to make sure everything on my bike stays good during the winter. Should I wipe it off once a week or... ?
Wash it off, give the painted surfaces a good wax job; clean and wax the chrome, clean; polish, and wax any aluminum; treat the leather and vinyl; cover it with a breathable cover. Check it frequently and take care of any problems you notice.

Of course I live in Texas, and we ride all winter.

TQ, you're in Louisville. What winter are you talking about? Personally, I have exactly the same garage situation as you do, and I'm thinking about taking Skip's implied advice and moving.
If you want to consider a real predicament, think about Clammy. He lives in Canada and has no garage! Maybe that's why he went over to the "dark side" and bought a Night Train without much chrome.

If I was getting a Fatboy I think I would have went with a differnt wheel other than the stock one, it seem's to do just what you have described, at least on alot of Fatboys I have seen, the chrome wheel they offer looks alot better but that's just my .02 cent's.

I'm not even close to knowing what I'm talking about, but this info is posted on the Harley website under cleaning.

IF this issue exists on the caliper side of the wheel, it might be what this message refers to...

"Clean your wheels -- and pay special attention to the dreaded galvanic corrosion. In the course of normal use, particles from brake dust get on your wheels. If neglected, these non-compatible metals can react to one another -- creating galvanic corrosion -- and produce pitting on your wheels. The result is costly refinishing of the wheel.

TQ, if you can't clean and fully wax and chrome polish your bike before storage at least use WD40's fogger. It coats all surfaces and will not allow any rust or corrosion. I live in Toronto and have an unheated garage and have stored all of my bikes in there without any problems by using polish or fogger in the fall.

I'll be storing my baby at the dealer for the winter, so I won't have to worry about that... I already despise winter... I'm gonna be a REAL bitter dude this winter while I'm thinking about my scoot and not being able to ride her for 5 months!!

Cheers!

I am a little late to the show here, but I'll offer my two cents...

I bought a set of Weld Chrome wheels for my Avalanche truck and two wheels pitted within two months. Weld replaced all four wheels - no questioned ask. The rep said every once in a great while something goes wrong and it slips past quality control.

They had better replace it for you!

Quick update - I spoke to my dealership today. Service manager claims that Harley is very clear in owner's manaual that they don't cover "rust" however, from a good will perspective the owner has agreed to give me a new wheel provided that I d pay the labor to switch out the wheel (approximately $120.00). I still don't believe this is right - what to you all think?
