Default Switching Handlebars question

I just bought a set of handlebars from a Heritage Softail to put on my Fatboy, I'm told the stock cables and wires will work fine. Can I just loosen the controls, slide them off then slide them on the new bars once installed? Or is it more involved, like disassembling the throttle assembly, etc?
