on my heritage to save some money i decided to change my oil/filter myself no probs, but when i came to change the trans fluid, the drain plug seemed to have been overtightened by the last techi and the key started to turn with no effect, whats the best method of removing the plug i will get a new one to replace it, do i have to take off the trans cover and drill it out or is there another method any help thanks.
Hey bro first thing what year is your bike... and if it's a softail TC the drain plug is between the shocks under the bike, right... If memory serves me right it's a allen screw or you can use a 5/8 socket with an extension to reach it...
Are you talking about the cover where the clutch cable goes into? or to check or add fuild?
Before trying to loosen the drain plug put the correct allen socket into the drain plug with an extension and tap it with a hammer (not too hard) This loosens up that loc tite they use.
Break it loose with a 5/8" socket then remove it the rest of the way with an allen wrench. If your bike has an 88B or 96B engine, the drain plug will be between the shocks.
Your trying to drain the primary not the tranny. On my bike the primary drain plug is the same as the tranny plug. Allen wrench internal and hex head external.
I saw you have an 08 night train. Hopefully you might know, but I have an 04 night train FXSTBI, is the primary plug the same as the tranny on an 04 night train? I can only locate two plugs underneath my bike?

on my '02 fxst the primary drain plug is located near the rear of the outer primary cover.
it's almost like a set screw(no head) & either hex or torx drive(i forget which).
as mentioned, the trans drain is located between the rear shocks. it's hard to get a good look at. i just go by feel. also as mentioned, that plug has a hex head & hex drive.
