Take into consideration that on the 96B's the casings are aluminum and all three drain plugs are steel therefore, if you over tighten the drain plugs (or someone else did) when you go to loosen them again, the threading from the casing will bust off around the drainplug bolt and you will get a spring looking thing around the bolt. Hopefully this is not the case with your motor however, if it is and the dealer was the last one to do the service - take it back and tell them what is going on and hopefully they repair it. Best of luck.
Okay then ... It's the Primary drain plug you can't get out... I had the same problem once... And I didn't want to jack my bike up that high to dril it out. I bought a ebay primary cover and changed the hole thing out... I got it for $50.00 so I thought it was a deal. After I changed it I took the old one and used a easy out to take the plug out.
If I were you I would take it to the shop and ask them how much to do it for you.
You should really think about getting a manuel also... It would help you a lot... Good luck!
BTW to change your remove the primary cover the Gasket is about 37 bucks plus the to little round gaskets on the inside... If you are going the try this you will need a manuel there a 2 bolts that bolt to the inner primary and a pattern that you must follow when removing and installing. Not to mention torque specs.
