2006 remap
question---with the Sert; can you remove it and place it on another scoot or do you have to buy a new Sert with the purchase of a new scoot? If you change your pipes---how easy is it to "update" the Sert. Just asking....trying to see if it's as easy as the PC is for me. I've heard great things about the Sert-----I'm just comfortable with the PC
I have an 06 Fatboy, Porker Hatchet pipes and SE A/C kit. My dealer did the download on my bike to the tune of $200.00 (incl. labor). My bike does backfire a little. They told me that this is normal. Are you guys saying the download they put on my 06 is not correct? If so what course of action do you reccomend?
Thats where they get you once its downloaded its for your bike only. You can hook it up to other bikes and check and see what they are doing but you can not adjust anouther bike.
You can change anything from idle speed to advanceing spark on each individual cylinder.
Add all you want. If you change to like a big bore or something major I would suggest unless you really know what your doing taking it in and have it dynoed and let them run a few maps to get it dialed and then you can play with it from there.
Just like when they install it the first time have a dealer with a dyno do it and they can make a few runs and dial it down and then the tweaking begins and with time you can really have some fun.
Make sure to bring a 3 1/2 disk so once they get it dialed have them put that patch on the disk so if you really **** it up you can allways go back to that setup.
But once you get used to it you can save your own patches right on the SERT program.
Its kick ***.
Every body talks about how its too expensive but for all you get and can do with it (Not to mention you don't have to find a spot to strap anything to your bike) its the only way to go.

The SERT is VIN coded and "Married" to an ECM, and can only be used for that particular bike....
If you choose to make mods down the road, whatever they may be, and it affects the performance, you just plug it between your PC and ECM and retune.....
WARG, the ECM Flash "Download" is engineered for a SPECIFIC component package, 1450 Stage I Legal is A/C and updated ECM Program.......
1450 Stage I Race is the same, now you add SE Performance Mufflers.....
Nothing about V&H, Bub's, etc... Only SE products......
If you change the package, you need to go with another Fuel Management device.....
Course of action is tough to say..... Your call, but I'd be asking what and why they did that.....

Allright Gunny, humor me for a sec. If a bud of yours was in the position of:
1. New bike
2. Already ordered (paid for) V&H Big Shot Longs
3. Wants to get air in easier via SE stage 1 air cleaner
4. Doesn't want to race the bike, not concerned with best 1/4 mile times, just wants to sound and run well
What advice do you give? Power commander, hold off on parts until remap available, V&H fuel pak, SERT...
Thanks, I appreciate your help.

If you even CONTEMPLATE doing any other mods to the bike (1550, cams, heads, etc...)later on...... Go with the SERT, hands down......
If you are tight on cash (Who isn't?), go with the PC (My least fave choice)... I have a thing about anything external and inline with the ECM.....
If your dealer is someone that you can trust, there are certain downloads that you can get away with for that particular build, and really don't need any additional Fuel Mgmnt processing....
As an example, TC 88 (FLHTCI), SEAC, SERT, and V&H Dresser Big Guns (I think[Essentially Drag Pipes for a dresser])......
I started off with a 1550 Stage I Softail map, to lessen the tuning time, and start off with a little bit fatter mix at WOT (20% load, WOT - 12 to 12.5 AFR) Cruising through the gears from 0 to 100 MPH, AFR was between 13 to 13.5...
Minor changes at the Spark and VE Tables.....
If it were my build, I'd do the SEAC, SERT, V&H..... Eventually you will or are going to want "More".... Just like everyone else .....
What kind of bike are we talking about, the Deluxe????

Hey Shovelhead,
Would you reccomend getting the Race Tuner or PC in order to replace the ECM Download I already paid for?
I doubt very seriously that my dealer is going to refund my money because I told them I read something on the internet, know what I mean.
2nd Quest: Will running the current set up cause any damage or hurt the bike. The backfires are very sporatic and minor. They really don't bother me as long as the setup is not doing any damage. If I can get by without putting more money into it, I would like to.
thanks

#1.... SERT, my obvious 1st choice....
#2.... Unknown, as I can't feel or hear the bike.... If you like the way it runs, keep it.... They might have put in a different flash to richen it up from jumpstreet, and saved you the hassle of needing to get a tuner..... depends on what they installed.....

Well I spoke to the dealer that installed the download and they told me that I either need to change my pipes or go with a different fuel managment system. They said they will check the download for me but if it is the "correct" one then there is nothing they can do b/c my pipes are not SE pipes. I asked them why no one told me that before they installed the download, and they pretty much blew me off. So I guess my options are to have the download checked (they probably will do nothing), or just buy another fuel managment system (and eat the first $200.00 I spent). Nothing like great customer service.
