I have a stage II BIg Bore, SEII slip-ons, etc. on my '06 Heritage Classic.............with just the DOWNLOAD. Bike has run great with no popping or backfire except every great once in awhile after start up. There is also a noticeable increase in power especially with a passenger.
TEll you what, once I get my exhaust fixed (as reported elsewhere in this forum I lost a baffle out of SEII slip on), dyno'ng the bike and see where I go from there. Thanks for the input.
Interesting tread. A bit confusing, but good reading.
I have an '06 Fatboy with V&H Big Shot Staggered, Stage 1, and SERT. I have about 490 miles so far and I get some back fire when letting off the throttle after fast take off. I think the dealer said I need to bring it back in after 500 miles to Dyno and Remap. Is this legit? Or are they Stealers?
Bob,
I know this is the Softail area (my wife has a Deluxe) but you guys are all over my question so I have to ask. I have an 06 RoadGlide with V&H True Duals and Rinehart mufflers SE Air Box and a PC3. I had some pinging at 20-40% throttle between 2000 and 2300 RPM's. I took 1 degree of timing out and pretty much fixed that issue. My question is while I don't get any pops on decel if I run it up to 3000 or a little more and back off all the way, when I get back on the gas I get 2 pops (1 from each cylinder). If I am running it pretty hard (highway) sometimes they are fairly loud. Any thoughts.
Scott
Hey Gunny, just a note to say thanks again for your time and insight. Its this kind of great help available on this site that keeps many like myself back here over and over. Thanks again...Pat
I get a similar kind of pop as Scotty. I am not really getting true backfires (very very seldom do I get a true backfire). What happens most of the time is when I get my RPM's up and let off the gas all is well, then right when I hit the throttle again I get kind of a muffled pop (only 1 pop usually). It doesn't happen everytime, maybe 20-30% of the time. I have had a dealership test ride the bike for about 80 miles, they told me the "exhaust tone" sounds normal.
I have so much to learn. . . I'm glad you guys are here to get me started on the right foot.
Again, I know this is softail turf, but I'm very interested in tuning my Street Glide. Money is an issue right now, so I'm hoping you can tell me if I'm thinking right.
Short term . . . I'm thinking of going with SEAC, stage-1 dowload and SE2s. I've still got some homework to do . . . but I've seen this setup on a couple other 88s and I like the sound and the basic performance seems to be there. I don't race, but I do ride 2-up quite a bit.
Eventually, (maybe three years from now) I'd like to go with a bore kit, SERT and true duals, either ovals, HK 3". (maybe)
PhantomMax... You should have your "Full Tune" done at your 1k service......
When I do an install on a new bike, I give a "Rough Can" map of what I feel it will need to survive the initial break in miles (Little fatter than norm, keep the Rev limiter down, etc...)
When it comes in for it's 1 K, or any bike that get's tuned, MUST HAVE at least 1k on the clock, and all fluids get changed, all adjustments are done, and then it gets tuned.....
Scotty... Sounds like you need a full tune done.... need to get the MAP, VE and spark all in concert.....
PoleCat... You are definitely thinking the least expensive, most bang for the buck, but FWIW, invest another few $$$$$ and get the SERT now.... You will have the ECM Flash that you need NOW, as well as the ability to dial it in a bit more....
Most importantly, you already will have the Tuner to utilize when you are ready to up-build.... only thing that you MIGHT want to buy then is the newest MAP Programs disc....
