Clunk means positive engagement. I'd rather have a clunk than no clunk...at least I know I'm in gear and not going to roll back with the motor revving up and me looking like a....well you know.
Don't listen to these other people KOJAX. There is definately a problem with your tranny. Send that new FatBoy Lo to me and I'll ride it for a few months to see if I can diagnose the problem for you. Shouldn't take more than 5,000-10,000 miles to figure it out.

lol! as everyone else says,it is a harley trait, u'll never here a jap bike sounding like that because it just doesn't sound right! but in harley,it's the opposite,if it sounds, everything's working ok, every bike I've heard has that sound, I don't know if the V-Rod makes it though
