Low fuel pressure, Deluxe died
Notice a different noise with the windshield on, stopped put my ear to the tank and the fuel pump sounds louder and intermittently making a strange noise. Ride a few miles, bike feels like it is starving for fuel, popping and backfiring.
It's EFI, 5k miles, got V&H Big Shot Longs, SE1 air cleaner and remap done last year, no problems till now.
Call dealer, tell him what it's doing, his advice is I'm in too low a gear and lugging the engine. If I could have gotten my hands on him I'd have killed him.
Limped it to a different dealer, they take it in. Tech comes back after an hour and tells me fuel pump is fine as the pressure reads good. Had to ask him to read it when under a load, sitting at idle it runs great, revs great, etc. Watch him pull away with the kickstand down a few minutes later, manages not to dump the bike and comes back after a short ride with the remarkable news that the fuel pressure falls off under a load.
I am appreciative of them taking it in with no appointment, but damn it is frustrating to have a new, expensive bike **** the bed and not get a warm fuzzy that the kid working on it really knows what he is doing.
Of course its in the mid 70's, no rain in sight and it's bike night at Quaker Steak and Lube.
Damn.
