Default Throttle cables

I tweaked my original handlebars and in the process of changing I pulled on the throttle cables to make them try to fit bars that were bigger than the original. I know, I'm a fumblefingered idiot. Anyway, after going back to the stock bars I have somehow stretched the cables and Ihave way too much slack. I can somehow tighten the cables bak up, but after turning the throttle the slack returns. I think I have pulled it loose from some kind of a keeper and am going to look for it in my Clymers.

So, have I damaged the cables and need to replace them?

Thanks for any help and I stipulate that I screwed up big time.

I did the same thing when I put heritage bars on mine,......but the dealership took out the slack at my next service,.....I didnt even have to tell them,...can you believe that!

They didnt change the cables,...I guess they just made an adjustment.

There is a procedure in the HD service manual for taking the slack out.
