Default Wild 1 Chubby Apes

I recently got a 2003 Fatboy and I've been researching ape hangers and I think I've settled on the Wild 1's. I'm now trying to decide between 16" and 18". I live in the Albany, NY area and I don't want to get pulled over all the time for my bars. I'm just over 6'2" tall if that makes a differance. I would appreciate any feedback anybody can give to help with my decision and any pics if your running the same bars. I saw a few people were running them in the ape **** thread. Thanks guys

At 6'2" 18's might be OK, safer bet would be the 16's. No point on dropping all that cash if you are going to be concerned about being busted while riding.

Default 18" Wild 1 Chubby Apes

I installed these bars on my Deluxe 6 months ago. I'm 6'3 and felt cramped with the stock beach bar setup. The apes are the only way to go for me.

California law states handle bars can not be any higher than 10 inches over your shoulders I don't know about NY handlebar laws.

let me know what you find out northtroyboy if you would. I am hopefully going to be buying a FatBoy Lo soon and putting apes on it. I'm also 6-2ish. The 18s look really big. but, if they fit they fit.

Yeah NY says nothing above the shoulders and I held a tape measure 18" above my riser and it seems so close. I think 16's will be perfectly legal but 18's may be pushing it. Anybody else from the NY capital distict area running apes and if so what's your height and have you had any trouble with the local cops. Some friends of mine said they're starting to crack down on people but I really want to run 18's. Thanks for the responses guys your bikes look sweet.

Move to CA and they can be 6" over your shoulders. 5'9" with 16"s and they are so comfy.

I am 6'4" and have 18's with 2" risers and love them. They are even tilted forward a bit for that sweet look. Make sure you switch your rubber bushings for some solid ones to avoid ape hanger wobble.

I'm 5'11, I went with 16's and now wish I had got the 18's instead.
That said, there might be a set of 18" Carlini Gangster apes in my future.
