Ended up cutting the acorn nut off with my dremel tool then drilling the remainder of the acorn nut and the bolt out until the sides were thin enough to remove it with some pliers.

Here's a close up of the culpret! You can see right now that it's cocked in there pretty good.

Hopefully these pic's will help out the next poor bastard this happens to.

not to revive an old thread but I can honestly say I'm glad I joined this forum because I'm putting a rake kit in my crossbones and well lets just say after my acorn nut kept spinning and spinning this is the first place I came to see what to do. Looks like ill be trying a putty knife and if that don't work the old dremel will have to make a showing. Thanks for all your guys help even know this was years ago lol

Hi, guys!

Any chance of doing this without a dremel solution? I haven't a dremel tool and access to electricity on my garaje. Tried all proposed but still no luck... thanks! :-)

Cheers.

There might be enough room to get a nut splitter on there.

Thanks for the tip, Warp Factor! Great idea, will look for the tool, didn't know about it :-)

It seems like a cleaner way to do it, I imagine it'll provide enough drive to crack the closed acorn nut if attacking from a few different points of the nut.

Cheers

Added: Just ordered the tool, will post results once I got it done.

On the nut-splitter pictured, you might need to grind a set of vertical flats on the tool for an extra wrench, to keep the tool from twisting and denting the console when you tighten the screw.

Thanks for the tip, Warp! Not sure about how could I setup the vertical flats you mention... thoughts?

After protecting everything carefully, I planned using two wrenches at the same time for the operation. One for fixing the tool horizontally, the other for turning the nut of the nut-splitter.

If it needs too much force to break the acorn nut, two people could be used for operating each wrench..

This is the set of nut-splitters I ordered:
