I went for a nice ride yesterday only to return home and find a nail in my rear tire. Ive been fortunate enough in the 20+ years that Ive been riding too have never experianced this before. my question is should I replace just the tube or the whole tire. the bike is a 07 deluxe with the stock spoked wheels. the tire only has about 5k miles on it and aside from the hole in it,in very good condition. Im not lookin to cheap out especially when safety is a concern, but also dont want to throw away money.
While the tire can probably be repaired, I would replace it, just to have the piece of mind. what if it was the front tire, would you be asking the same question?
Ever experienced tire failure on a motorcycle? I have. Scared the fvck out of me. I'd use a patch or plug to get me home or to a shop, that's it. My life is worth more than a $150 tire.

I'm surprised you got home with a tubed tire that had a nail in it! The 2 times that happened to me the tires lost pressure immediately.
Replace the tube and if the nail was small and in the center of the tire, I wouldn't worry too much about it. That tire is not going to fall to pieces. If you are going to worry about the tire holding up, replace it, no point ruining your next 5,000 miles by not having 100% confidence in your bike.
Even though I don't have anything wrong with my tire's I still think about the freak blow out. I couldn't imagine what it'd be like if I new there was a repair on one! ****in get a new tire!!!
