New tire - New tube! patch on tube will be fine but definitely increases a potential problem....you dont want to be the first one to have something go bad on a patched tube and plugged tire.

This should help you decide..

I recently got part of a key (yes, a key) in my rear tire. Since I had the Harley Tire warranty, called them up, got it shipped to the dealer, new tire replaced, no problem. $0 charge and they gave me a new tire.

Patching it would've been cheaper for Harley..but since the chance of failure is ENOUGH that they won't do it, they're out $150 plus for the new tire they had to give me, when patching it would've cost them $5.

Go for the new tire, $150 is a small price to pay for peace of mind cruzing at 70mph. Your life is worth more than that. My 2 cents.

i believe Dunlop says patch the tire and replace the tube if it is not sidewall. it is on their web paige. that is why i went tubeless. i just plug and ride and will change tire sooner. cost labor and you have 5k already i would get a new tire if tubeless, but tube fix it
