Default Tire Issue

Decided to go for a ride after work. Noticed tire was flat. Found a tiny puncture. Nothing in it. This tire only has a few thousand miles on it. Can a motorcycle tire be plugged? Is that safe? Hate to throw tire away. I guess i have been lucky, never had a flat tire on a bike before.

Most do not recommend plugging a motorcycle tire but I have done it in the past with no problems. If you have a laced (spoked wheel)you can patch or replace the tube.

Try airing it up and see how fast the leak is if its a slow leak ride it to a nearby cycle shop and let them patch it the only time I would use a plug is out on a road trip for emergencies.

Good advice from the other chaps. A vulcanised patch inside the tyre is the best repair for tubeless, or a patched/new tube. I agree about plugs being temporary, but if I was on tour and had to use one, and it held up, I don't think I would have any qualms about riding thousands of miles on one!

Been running a plug in my tire for several thousand miles on my rear tire, but I have the tubeless mag wheels. As others have said, if it's a spoked wheel, replace the tube and have the tire patched from inside.

I have no problems using a plug if it's done right, but vulcanized patch inside the tire is better.
If you have tubeless tires (cast wheels), you can still put a tube in it in addition to the plug/patch for extra safety.

If your going to plug tires, this type of mushroom plug is the best plug for the job.
