Default Flat tire

This may sound stupid on my part, but I live in a small town and upone arriving home from work found a screw imbedded in my rear tire.

I dont have a motorcycle shop close by, just wondered if this was something a regular tire shop could handle or should handle.

If its tubeless no problem they can just run a plug in it.

If it is tubeless and they can plug it for you, I would still CAUTIOUSLY get it to the dealer and replace the tire. You don't want a plugged tire on a motorcycle. I know it hurts. I've replaced a new tire that had less than 500 miles on it but I felt I was worth it!

I agree with Whaap on this. Plugs in tires aren't the most recommended method of tire patching even though it's done a lot. On a bike, I'd be even more cautious. Safety first...You dont wanna wind up as a hood ornament because of a blow out.... My .02....

I wasnt trying to say by plugging it that it was a permanet fix. I just wanted to get him to a dealer later on. I say safety first also.

What does the dealer charge to patch a flat tire, provided its repairable.

Thanks

I used to plug tires as long as the hole was in the tread. I would get a kit from pep boys, put the bike on the stand, pull out the nail, plug it with that stuff covered in tire cement, and fill it with air. I never had a problem. I wouldn't reccomend it, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Rode the tire until it was bald many times. Never a problem. But like I said if need be. This was many years ago, I dunno what I'd do now.

Might just be me, but I would never run with a 'repaired tire' on any of my bikes...

Not as critical on a car/truck with 4 tires, but with a bike and only 2 tires on the road my life is worth more than the $100 or so it costs for a new tire.

That being said, you can run a plug in a tubeless tire long enough to get you to need to go, and if you are running tube tires you can get the same result by having a can of 'slime' handy.

Most of the guys I know run tubes, and when going on a long cruise at least one of us have a can of slime with us. I've seen it used a number of times, and it works very well...

I have to agree with the others, plug it to get it to the repair shop and then replace it.This subject has been gone over many times and this is just my opinion. On a car I would have no problem since you still have three tires if one goes.On a bike, well I dont think we wanna know whats thats like.
