So when riding with a buddy the other day he noticed my rear fender not centered with the center of the tire. It is almost touching on the right side. If I hit a hard bump it does touch a little bit. Drop it off at the dealer this morning. One of the guys tried to tell me "none of them are straight" when there was a 08 deluxe sitting in the shop that was aligned perfect. I got pretty mad and told them I wanted my bike fixed or I wanted a new f'n bike. Any idea what the problem might be? Just needed to vent a little bit.
I know on the older bikes (mine is an 04) the rear tires were not centered in the fender. I actually had to make some modifications and use different spacers to center mine when I oversized my rear tire. Mine was to the left about 1/4" though and never rubbed.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe all softail fenders are off centered to the left because of the pulley. But if you fender is tweaked, try loosening the strut and fender bolts and have someone hold the fender straight will you retorque the bolts. I had to do this myself.
Mines off to the left too,but it doesn't rub the tire.Looked at a Fatty at the dealer and it was centered.Never mentioned it to them, maybe I should.Let us know how you make out.
Mine rubbed when bottoming out. Lots of them are not centered. First try loosening the fender strut bolts, pulling on fender, and retightening strut bolts. After a couple attempts, this wold not work. So, I grabbed under the fender near the struts and yanked the crap out of it several times, I mean several times... it is centered now, no more rubbing.
my deluxe is straight. it may not be the fender at all,if the wrong spacers where used during assembly the rear wheel itself may not be centered in the frame. even on big tire bikes the tranny and engine may be slightly off center in order to achieve clearance for the belt/chain but the tire should be centered with the back bone of the frame.anyway good luck.
Ive seen plenty of new bikes off centered and others are fine. I had this issue with my Night Train and I just had to use some washers on the inner fender/ strut assembly to get it to move over some. I'll try and get some pics up later.
This being my first harley, it's pretty disappointing to find stuff like this after spending the money i did. Doesn't say much for quality control, is this a idea of things to come? For the price, the s.o.b. should be perfect.
