Default Question for installing a V&H Fuel Pak ???

A mechanic at the local Harley Dealer told me to cut away the back of my seat so the Fuel Pak would fit inside it. I would hate to ruin a Mustang seat in the process of making it all fit. I had the Fuel Pak installed the way V&H says, but the seat just doesn't clear the pack. I have a Mustang solo seat.

Is this a normal thing to do? Will it ruin the seat?

Before cutting your seat, I would call Dynojet and see if the have a deep ECM tray for your bike. Mine is a Deluxe, but they sold me a deep ECM tray that sits lower into the fender and the PCIII mounted on top of the old ECM. I can get some pics if you want. Dont know if this will work for your bike or not.

As Brandon mentioned, do you have the deep ECM tray installed? The dealer should of had one. I would call Vance and Hines and ask about the deep ecm tray and see if they have a deeper Tray.
If that route failed, I would then call FuelMoto and ask Jamie if there is a deeper tray made by anyone to correct the clearance problem.
On my Fatboy, the deep ECM tray, included with the Fuelpak, allows the top of the Fuelpak to set level with the fender.

Just installed a DFO, similar to fuel pak, a couple days ago. Their instructions also said to mount it on rear fender, above ECM. Did not seem to fit either. Mounted mine in front of the battery, just under where the ground wires are mounted to the frame. Between the oil can and frame. It will slide in their, like in a pocket sort of. Fits perfectly. Ran the excess wires down along the frame and back again to the dfo, then wired tied them. Fits great, and have room to adjust it.

They V&H's know that the unit won't fit correct, so why don't they let potential buyer in on that prior it selling them the unit.?.
