It is on the border of TN and NC and is called the Tail of the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway is also near there and both are graeat rides.
I have a the Lick's solos bag. It is not huge, but I can fit all my necessities in there and my front tool bag. Just a word of warning to not overstuff it as the last bag I had (brandless) I ripped the stitching apart by stuffing it too full. I have never scraped my bag on the fatboy, but I do have mounted differently than the stock mounting setup so that it is up a bit higher. Get it, and if you are concerned about it scraping make a mounting bracket for it.
I've got the Leatherworks bag, and it's great for daytrips. I can get a bottle of water, a long-sleeved shirt, and a few other odds and ends in it. Never dragged it.

+1 on the mounting bracket, this can be done easily and you can mount is as hight or low or forward or back as you want. I mounted mine on a bracket and can be removed with one bolt.
