Default 40% off until Friday - I took the plunge

Read good things and bad things about D2 Moto and the spike air cleaner, but at 40% off, I thought what the heck. Picked up the chrome spike (carb version) for $102, extra filter for about $11, and some billet heel/toe shift levers for $41 - and free shipping to boot. Also took Spartaman's advice and paid with PayPal, although their url is a https as opposed to http, which I thought meant it was a secure site.

I got the carbed version without those "piston looking" things, so I wonder if I'm going to have a problem with the oily residue blowing back on my bike.

And I wonder if I'm going to need some sort of rain sock, or if they even make one for the spike type filters.

And yes, I know it doesn't really fit the Deluxe "look", but over the winter, I hope to transform my bike into something a little more mean looking.

Oh yeah, the discount code is "BFS40".

I will post the next time I receive one, which is about every other week. Although usually it's just for 25% or 30% off. The 40% deal seems to happen just a few times a year.

So I was wrong. 40% off again through the 19th. Enter code: WS40 at checkout.

My spike is scheduled to arrive today. I'm furloughed tomorrow so I'll install then. Alas.....rain all this week so no test ride.

Okay, so I got mine today and I'll have to say, you get what you pay for. I too did not receive instructions so I don't know if I'm missing any pieces, but I can't figure out how the spike attaches to the elbow. Is it just the two tiny set screws? If that's the case, this thing is going to fall off within 5 miles. Also, lots of flaking rust inside the elbow. I scraped it off, but as it forms again, it will get sucked right into the carb and probably plug my jets. The only positive thing I have to say is I'm only moderately disapointed. Had I paid full price or if I bought the Ebay one at twice the price, I'd be sorely disappointed and a little pissed too. If anyone knows how the spike attaches to the elbow I'd appreciate a post.

Damn G, now you got me thinking I don't want to order from these guys. The price sure is right though. After you cleaned the elbow of the rust what did you do, if anything? Did you get it installed yet?

I would say if you want a spike intake, this isn't a bad way to go. Like I said, I would have hated to pay $200 for one of these. They emailed me the instructions right away. But it was just a few sentences. I could have installed it without them using common sense. My biggest concern is how the spike mounts to the elbow. The spike itself fits very loose around the elbow, there is about a pencil point gap between the elbow and the spike. Two tiny set screws is what holds the spike to the elbow. Seems kinda of flimsy, but we'll see when I go to install it either tomorrow or this weekend.

Rust flakes came from the darker center area.

This is what I scraped out of the intake. Now that I look at it again, it's not really rust, just rust colored metal flakes, maybe slag from the casting process????

Those two little set screws on the bottom is what holds the spike to the elbow. Probably would have been better if it had 4 spaced evenly around, or at least 3 spaced evenly. With these two at the bottom, it's going to jam the intake to the top, leaving a gap here where the screws are.

The spike is a loose fit on the elbow, about a pencil point gap.

I'd be curious as to what Rick101285 (post #32) thinks when he gets his.
