Default Springer ride characteristics vs. other Softails

Clearly, the front end of the Springer looks a lot different from the normal front shock/suspension systems of other softails. I'm curious to hear from Springer riders (past or present) what makes the ride of a Springer different from more "traditional" systems. What's good or not so good about the ride? What is different? Thanks!

I've got a '93 springer softail that I've had for a couple of months now. To me, the way the front end rides isn't that much different than a hydraulic front end. It seems to ride a bit stiffer, so you might notice bumps a little more, but you don't get the front end dive from stopping quickly, etc. Since it's a little stiffer, I think it handles better as well.

Once you go springer, you'll never go back. I just love that front end...

Depends on whether you are talking FLSTS or FXSTS. The former has the wide 16" tire and is a heavy VERY solid ride, The latter has a skinny 21" tire and is lighter and more nimble but both are heavier than a "conventional" front end. They don't take big bumps as well as "conventional" but are much smoother under normal circumstances.

95% of the time you’ll never know the difference other then the Springer front just looks so cool. I’ve had two I had a 93 FX and now I have a 05 FL Springer Classic on a good road Ill match the ride of the 05 front end against any thing on the road but if you’re on a bad stretch of road it is a rougher ride because it has less travel then a hyd front end.

I have an 06' Springer FL Classic. Of all the bikes I've owned [4] Sporty,.... choped, slamed, and raked custom,....GSXR 1000 sport bike,....Fat Boy,...I like the way the front handles best. I don't find it rough on bumpy roads..[I have bottomed it out a few times] no big deal. When I lean it into a corner it tracks true...It works for me.
