Charging system amperage?
Anyone know what the stock charging system output on a 2005 Night Train is? I'm looking to run two sets of heated gear for a road trip this winter. The total draw for the gear will be 28-29 amps.
I'm thinking it's either 32 or 38 amps, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
I've seen 45 amp stators for the touring bikes, but does anyone know of an upgraded charging system for the "B" motors?

Edited to add- It looks like it's 38 amps stock, I guess the question then is will the bike run on 9 or 10 amps, or is that going to discharge the battery and kill the bike?

Just curiuos, but what heated clothing are you using that draws almost 30 amps? I went to the gerber site to get a rough idea of power usage, and if you both are using pants, gloves, and jackets, it should draw about 22 amps.
I dunno. Next step is to call Gerbings and see what they say.
Do you need them on all the time? This may by a dumb idea, but maybe you could take turns having them on.

get the thermostat so you dont burn up. it pulses the 12v and the heater is only on for the length of the pulse. I have the thermostat built in for the my heated gear from gerbing. also they have the ****** gerbing designer liner marked down from 300 to just 129.
I did mix a tourmaster jacket + chaps with Gerbing Gloves, here is a suggestion for you (would not be very expensive)..
INstead of using the socks, just use 'Toe Warmers' .. they are cheap disposable and for 2$ you get 5 hours , if you did ride 50 hours in your trip you are looking at 20$.
And you save 5 amps right there.
Good luck but I must agree heated gear is a must in this cold weather coming ahead of us as long as there is no white stuff on the ground.
