Think I put this in the wrong section so thought I would put it here
Bought my first Harley 1998 FLSTC the work on the scoot is amazing the guy spent fortunes on it. Now to the point it had only done 11,000 miles 5,000 in the last 5 years so got my spanner man to do a major service and go through the bike asked him about another cam when he brought it back.He said I should check with the previouse owner as the ignition was upgraided to a crane fireball hi-4e ajustable rev ignition system . The last owner never done it and I cant get the 1st owner . My question why would anyone upgraid to this system on a standard engine the reason I'm saying this is the money spent ie custom paint , large touring tank 7thousand pounds spent on chrome and other peices cant beleive he would'nt put anything into the engine ?????
Some people only want the bling. The Motor Company did a good job attracting these folks in recent years. They leave their motor stock so it's reliable and covered under warranty. The most they'll do is a stage one. Many don't know how to wrench. I cut my teeth on AMF Harleys and old British twins. If you couldn't wrench on these bikes, you didn't ride.
The ignition may have been changed because there was a problem with the stock set-up. Aftermarket is typically cheaper than OEM and if there are EVER plans to change things in the motor, then already having an upgraded ignition system is a bonus. If I had a problem with my stock set-up I would probably add a nice aftermarket ignition even though I don't "plan" on doing any engine work.
to get the best he could out of the motor without changing anything...
he probably was broke after buying all the bling and was happy with performance.
the cams for evos made a pretty good jump in power,, maybe Ur turn to spend a Little $$$$ on the motor.....

I didn't realize that there is something wrong with having a reliable motor. Secondly most only get to standard 2 yr warranty. So after that you could do whatever you would want.
