I really want to do this and I have a old cover to use I see many guys have done this here. But I dont know what to use to cut this? Its going to kill the chrome No? any tips ? thanks.
I cut mine with a grinder with a thin cut off wheel. Cut just inside where the new screamin' eagle glue on cover goes. So its just a backing plate for the glue to bond to, ya never see the cut so it doesn't have to be perfect. Cut, glue, bolt on.
I did this to my Fatboy earlier this year and I've had tons of compliments on it and people who will just sit for minutes at a time and marvel at how good it looks. I'm still the only person I've seen in Japan who's had it done. I'm glad to be rid of that "football" a/c. Makes the bike look like a vacuum cleaner, IMO.
A friend of mine and I just used a Mototool and come cutting wheels to cut it, and a grinder to smooth it with the rough cut cover chucked in a drill press. Theres a write up on how to do it here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/showt...22#post2909122
Good luck!
