I've got an 06 Heritage Classic and the front end had some wobble and clunks over bumps that kept getting louder and louder. Brought it to the dealer and they torqued up the pinch bolts and the main stem bolt. They said it was really loose and they were surprised by how much. I told them about the posts here on the site and that there seems to be quite a few 06 Heritage Classics out there with this issue. They agreed and sd they had fixed about 4 or 5 in the past two months. What's up with that?? Anyhow, I was thinking this was a warranty fix, guess again! $40 bucks to fix!?! I asked the service manager about HD's "2 yrs unlimited mileage" warranty and he sd not on maintenance such as oil changes, brake adjustments and other stuff like tightening the head bolts. That sucks, but the bike doesn't make a sound now....
The fork should have been torqued during set up, before you took delivery. I would call B.S. on paying for it. I would go back to the dealer and request, since the fork was "so loose", that they do a complete set up on the bike since it's obvious it was not properly done in the begining.
I agree -- the stealerships here in the Seattle area all LOVE getting $$ any way they can. I won't be buying my next bike from any here. Wenatchee Harley Davidson in Central Washington area has excellent prices and the service what they sell until it's right for no charge. Great prices on parts also. It's about a 130 mile ride to them from Seattle so next time I buy that's where I'm going. Tired of all the blank stares back at me when I ask why the price is so high....
Not only a Heritage problem , had the same problem with my Deuce when new , had the dealer look into it at the 1K service . Obvious it should have been torqued when set up , was not . No charge ! They did not tack it on to my bill (hidden) that was $50 less than the quote . I'd demand that $40 back , if they deny you , find a new dealer .
I had this problem with my 05 Fatboy. I bought the bike in Mar 05 and have been in and out of the dealer since then. I was charged 39.00 to adjust and it was still wrong. I adjusted the fallaway per the Tech Manual over the 4th of July weekend. Now it rides right. At least your dealer acknowledged the problem. Mine acted like he never heard of this. Ride Safe
I had the same thing on my 06 Heritage the dealer where I got it came and got it and tightened the stering bolts for free. And I live 80 miles from the dealer. They are having trouble with the Heritage and wheel wobble. They fixed the wobble, but I feel a weird vibration at 60 that I didn't have before. I found A good Indy by my home that will look at it this week I'll let you know. I'm paying him just because my dealer is so far away and backed up for 4 weeks. I seem to miss her after a day. Good luck Tom
Glad to hear ya gotta it fixed - I guess the fallaway is supposed to be an inch of center on either side - at least that what the guy told me -- sound right? I called the dealer in Eastern Washington where I bought it (Shumate HD in Kennewick, WA) and they sd they would have taken care of it for free. So then I asked about the 5K service that I need done and he sd the service w/syn 3 will run me $260 -- over here in Seattle the HD dealerships want anywhere from $435 to $475 with Syn 3 !! Guess where I'm takin a ride to in the next couple of weeks! [&:]
Wondering if this is a bigger problem than we are hearing about? Since the front got fixed up it rides and feels really good, but I keep hearing about heritage front ends on 06's and 05's that are loose. If this is a big issue the moco needs to get up front on this and stop charging us to get their problem fixed...just my .2 ...
