blow dyer would work, but i like to use a heat gun. it is great for this kind of stuff and only takes a matter of seconds
I got it really hot and no movement. Is yours a flstci? If so, what year? Mine's acting like a clip, not adhesive.

a previous poster had clips on his 05 so i am guessing yours has clips as well. not sure how to get them off without causing damage. plastic clips can be the biggest pain in the sack. i have a 07 fxstb

OK... Got it. My '06 Heritage Classic had no adhesive, (wish it did), but 2 very tight fastening clips, which you can't see until you pry the medallion off. First I used very thin plastic tape-type dental floss to get behind the medallion (yes, it's that tight), but it broke when I pulled on it. Next I used the tiniest micro screwdriver in the set and put tape on the end (thanks "blown alcohol" for the tip). I still had to be very careful not to scratch the chrome behind the medallion. Next I did the same with next larger screw driver. That bent the medallion out enough to get a cloth ribbon behind it and pull. The medallion came off in pieces, but it wouldn't have if I were more patient and repeated the procedure on the other side. I'm not going to use the medallion, so no big deal. In the trash it went. Now that I know it's hollow plastic, I would recommend drilling or punching out the center and breaking it off from there. I think that has less of a chance of damaging the chrome sissybar; there is a bolt right under the center of the medallion.

Here are some pics:

1) Sissybar with medallion removed. Note the center hole for the screw that holds the backrest on, a hole on each side where the medallion was held by the 2 clips, and another off-center hole where the third medallion peg fit without a clip. You can see a slightoutline where the medallion used to be.

2) Concho and seat back in place now. I ran the center bolt through the stock hole in the leather strap, then through the stock hole in the leather rosette and into the back pad, then "tied" the concho as normal, which holds the new medallion in place. Concho looks great, almost hides the original holes, but not quite. I think MoCo just wants us all to buy new sissybars (which I'm not going to do) instead of changing medallions.

3) Here is the medallion and clips that were removed and discarded. If I ever want to replace it, Harley sells a number of adhesive medallion designs.

Damn, I'm really bumed out now. I thought those medallions were made out of silver.

ok boys here's the ticket....after removing the two lower phillips head screw's,standing from the behind your bike.turn the pad itself counter clockwise, the screw will want to turn also, but once you get it started you can get a few finger between the pad and sissybar and it will start to spin off.once you get if off take a small punch of nail and you push the medallion off and reinstall your new backrest pad the proper way and reuse your stock medallion....good luck....
