You are correct in that the one I was quoted was the removable type
as opposed to the rigid mount.
Perhaps I'll switch to the rigid mount and install it myself and see how that works out

I didn't get a reach around, either. $241 worth of parts installed - all easy locations - and $234.57 in labor charges. About two hours work. $475.57 total!

"Oh what a feeling!"...no..wait..thats another brand.
HOLY CRAP!! $234.57 for 2 HOURS of labour???? I got a labour quote to change my handlebars (from the stock drag bars to mini-apes off an 02 Wide Glide) including lengthening the wiring, installing new cables/brake line, installing new grips, and plumbing the wiring inside the handlebars for about $350.00 Canadian. That represents 7 hours of labour! What kind of shop rate does your dealer HAVE???

Cheers!

This IS the "Holy Crap!" thread after all

I think he got the same dealer as me. It looked to me that they were billing their time
at $70.00 per 30 minutes, rounding up to the nearest hour, and then adding tax.

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, CRAP!!! That's just insane!! $140.00/hr??????????? What the hell are they smoking??? There's no way they can justify such a high rate. I can't believe anyone would get work done at a place like that.

Cheers!

Make sure on the rigid mount about the turn signal relocation but if it isn't necessary, it will take 15 minutes to install. And if you ever decide you want to run without it for a while, it takes 15 minutes to uninstall. In my opinion, the rigid looks cleaner as well.

I don't know that much about shop rates, but that does sound a little rich. I would look around or try to do some of the work myself. Good Luck.

Its either that or they were quoting $70.00 per hour and claiming that it
would take 2 hours to add the backrest, and another 2 hours to install the tach.

Rediculous no matter which way you look at it[:@]

Don't pay them to put that stuff on. Every aftermarket part I've ordered comes with installation instructions. Their instructions are easy to follow. Just make sure you protect the paint. The turn signal relocate is simple. VERY SIMPLE. The more work you do on your own bike, the more familiar you'll become with it.

$60 to $75 an hour is about standard for this area (central to Northern AZ) but 2hrs for the backrest is ridiculous. I havn't busted a serious knuckle in over 20years and it took me 20 minutes max and I only broke one nail.
