Well, I made some brackets for my extra long fishtails a while back and it seems that I put a bit too much stress on the right one. Originally I bent a c clamp and then I straightened it out and rebent it and I think that it what did it. We were up by Lake Casitas and stopped at a fire station for a smoke (ironic, is it not) and someone tole me my pipes was going haywire. Took one look and sure enough that bracket was broken. The lucky thing is that we were able to bolt it back together with a couple of washers from the fire guys (thanks guys) and it got me home just fine.
This brings me to my question. My pipes are 1 3/4" inner diameter so I guess that means the outer diameter is 1 7/8"? Is that right? I bought a 1 /3/4" clamp a while back and tried to put it on and it was a tad bit too small.
It seems that a few people had bad luck today as someone lost their mp3 player on the freeway, and another of out crew noticed that a bolt had worn through his tire to the steel belting in the center of the tire. Needless to say it was short day for us. Only 200 miles instead of 400.
200 vs 400 man I wish!!!! As far as your question, I think you pretty much answered it yourself! This is one reason why I always carry some bailing wire in my tool bag. Never know when you got to pull a little Mcgyver action on the side of the road.
