If I had it to do again, it would be a Heritage. Not that I don't dig my fatboy, but the seat is better, the bags are a plus, the lightbar is a plus, the fender lights are a plus.. and the heritage to me just looks more "classic".. I guess because it is. My first bike was a heritage with beach bars and chrome fatboy wheels and a blue / white two tone paintjob. Absolutely gorgeous! I still miss her. You can always put fatboy wheels on a heritage, but there's a LOT more to do to bring a fatboy up to the amenities of a heritage. And the stock fatboy bars and seat are in my humble opinion, unrideable. Bars are too low with no reach and the seat is hard as a rock. But hey, it's a fatboy. hehe I've got a lapera solo and heritage bars on mine now, with some H-D bags, but the bags are still no comparison to heritage bags which are much larger.

Yeah, I did a set of Cycle Visions Barebacks - Detach kit for saddlebags.. I love 'em! I'd use them on either bike, Heritage or Fatboy.
When I first came on this site....I was asking pretty much the same questions. And in my present state of mind....I pretty much CHANGE my mind daily....as to WHICH...I want. I LOVE the looks of a "Fatboy"....sleek...sporty...definately makes a statement. In all HONESTY....the Heritage Classic is by FAR....the best value for the money....IF....money is of consideration. So where am I at NOW....Im in the BIG D....waiting on the judge to decide....and when he makes a decision....I'LL make a decision. Until then....it's still up for GRABS....unless in the meantime I find a very influential lady....lol....
I had the same dilema between the deluxe and RK Classic. Yeah---they're different classes; but I do understand how you're torn. I guess it depends on what you'll be using it for. I'm happy I chose the Deluxe. But I have a guy who has a white RK Classic and I'm jealous. Being young and just coming off of crotch rockets---I'm glad I chose the more sportier look of the deluxe. It fits me, it fits my riding style, it fits the fact that I don't do long distance riding with passenger often. For the money----u just can't beat the Heritage Classic though. If what you want are the extras!! I'm still into the sportier look more than functionality----if it were the other way around--RK Classic hands down. If it hand to be a softail with functionality---Heritage Classic; no question
If you are looking for "cool" the Fatboy has that look. The wheels are not great in a crosswind. I have friends that complain that the wind in the Columbia River area blows them around quite a bit due to the closed wheels.
You are not kidding, the winds here can be insane. I am sooo glad that I have spokes and not solid wheels.
