Could be a good thing depending on how honest you are when it comes time to sell your bike. Heh. That's why I haven't had them replace it, yet. I want my odometer to read the actual mileage. If it got really bad, such as in the case of the OP, I might venture toward a new speedo.
that dealer should've also told you that they can reinstate the mileage on the new speedo, as advertised in hd web site...
"Mileage reinstatement available through your Dealer."

Interesting...I'll have to talk to them about that. "Mileage reinstatement" may just be totally against the law in Japan, however. I'll have to see what's up with that. Thanks.

i think the "law breaking" would be done at hd factory in usa and not at the dealer...but is not really against the law under certain conditions, been researching this cause i want to replace mine with speedo/tach combo...here's a part from the law:

"Adjusting mileage. A person may service, repair,
or replace an odometer of a motor vehicle if the
mileage registered by the odometer remains the
same as before the service, repair, or
replacement"

I put a new spedo tack on my 08 Fatboy and the dealer had to have the current mileage before he could order it. When I got it the mileage was already programed into it.

If your speedo is getting replaced by Harley, the law is that they have to supply a new speedo with the same mileage as is on your bike, at least in CA.
