Default Speedo Question

Got an '08 Heritage Classic. Really like the handling and ride. When I take it out and there is a temperature swing the glass steams up badly. To the point that I can't tell how fast I'm going and that's a problem. Where I ride they'll get you for doing 5 over. Done this since it was new. Never really thought about it much till the financial crisis and the small towns are looking to increase revenue. Comments???? Suggestions????

Welcome to HD quality control. The Stealership will tell you it is normal, and I have not heard of a fix, but your not the only 1 with this problem.

H-D speedo's like to fog up, the condition is frustrating, but normal according to the stealer.

Internal fogging is a sign of moisture collecting somewhere in or near speedo housing. Maybe you have washed that area and accidentaly or whatever, hosed it? Doesn't matter except you might want to avoid that area in the future when washing the bike. Not to worry, just lift up the housing and blow it completely dry, Hairdryer might do the trick without lifting the assembly out. Just heat it gently, you should see fog form and then disappear as the moisture evaporates out of the housing.

Ride in the rain only when caught, keep it in the garage, did it when going thru extreme elevation changes and from morning to afternoon. It just does it whenever it has a mind to fog up. Garage is not heated by is dry.

If I ride in the rain, the next few days I'll get a small spot at the bottom of the speedo that fogs up, real small about 1/2" tall by 1" wide, its weird that ts at the bottom though.

My bike does it, too. My dealer told me that it is a warranty issue, but that they'd have to replace the whole speedo, in which case you'd have to start from zero all over again and therefore your odometer wouldn't have the bike's actual mileage. Could be a good thing depending on how honest you are when it comes time to sell your bike. Heh. That's why I haven't had them replace it, yet. I want my odometer to read the actual mileage. If it got really bad, such as in the case of the OP, I might venture toward a new speedo.
