I bought a used 07 Deluxe with 5500 miles and Python slip on pipes. I put 6200 miles on it and it was running great.
As I was coming to a stop yesterday, my bike stalled. It started right up with no problems. On my way home, the interstate was basically a parking lot but my bike ran fine at an extended idle and crawling speeds. When I was riding today, as I let off the throttle in 5th gear going about 50-55, my exhaust started popping, which is also new. It later stalled again as I was coming to a stop. It gave me no warning and the engine sounded fine and idled fine before it happened. I did not notice anything happening with the speedometer and my gas milage has not dropped.
I recently had the oil and primary chaincase oil changed. I ordered a V&H fuelpack and will also buy new spark plugs and a new air filter.
Any suggestions on other things I need to check out?
Thanks a lot!
Sounds like bad plugs or wires. I do know when these start to go you will get popping and staulling, sometimes comming and going. Definately sounds like spark not fuel.
i have 07 fatboy mine did same thing it was the speed censer the speedo quit working and blinker would not cancel and when you pulled the clutch in it stalled but it start up and idle fine
Had same experience on 2005 Deluxe with 3500mi. Had recently swapped spark plug wires for Magnum steel braided (*%$#@*). Took the scoot to the dealer, still under extended warranty. Error code generated by the bike turned out bad spark plug wires.
Replaced with black Screaming Eagles and never had a problem since. 11,500mi currently. Total repairs $30
Had a similar problem with my Heritage. Come up to a stop, pull in clutch, and bike would die. Start right back up. Next stop same thing. Found that if I turned the ignition switch off before trying a restart I wouldn't have the problem again for awhile. Also had pinging and high idle issue when the bike was hot.
Since it was still under warranty I took it to the dealer. They told me they couldn't replicate the problems but they installed an undated software flash for the ecm which they said the MoCo put out for the stalling issue. Fortunately for me, it cured all the problems I had.
Go to the simplest thing first. The same thing appened to me with my Heritage 2008 the other day. It appened twice on the same ride when I close the throttle at a stop sign or at a traffic light, the engine would stop running. The last time I noticed that the beam light was off. The battery contacts were dirty, cleaned them and the bike ran fine after. Good thing I had a few tools with me.
