Welcome to the addiction! And it is just that. As others have stated get whatever thrills you. Just know that buying the bike is only the beginning of the expense. You'll want to make the bike yours by getting new bars and grips and seat and pipes and air cleaner and well....you get the picture.

I just bought an 07 fatboy for 1200 below trade in value....

it's a buyers market for sure.
(yeah pix will be comin shortly)

you can do a ton of customizing for the money you'll save gettin a good used one....and the one I bought already had pipes, quick release windshield, backrest/luggage rack, custom grips/pegs/mirrors, SE air filter, fuel pak, and was completely flawless. so I got plenty of room to do more mods like wheels and paint.

but if you like the lo, go get it. .. truth is, we might die on these things... and if we do, we want to do it in style

If you can afford it - lo is nice. Otherwise, like others said. some great deals out there
such as this one. 03 FB with only 800 miles - unreal...

Whichever one you like better is the one you should get as they are both good and nice bikes....If I had to pick between these two for myself...I'd go with the '09 and do a lot of customizing to it.

The Guy's are all right, at the end its your decision and you realy know what you want. Just a word of warning though, as a new rider be prepared to learn the hard way if your not care full, by that I mean dropping the dam thing. it happen's, its just with experience you learn not to do somethings which you know will end up with your pride and joy on its side, been there, had the scares, did it on cheeper older bikes years ago, 'Oh no, not on the Harley, '

Ride safe

Between the two, I'd get the Lo and a new bike is not different than a new car, you get that "new" feeling when riding or looking at it. Get what you want because that's what this whole thing is all about.

You are a new rider, kind of like being a new driver, like my kids. I didn't start them off in something new and I'm real glad I didn't start myself off on new bikes. Some leasons are only learned the hard way it seems and they are much more painfull when you wipe that "new' feeling off your ride while learning them. Even little things like dropping a socket on your fender while changing a mirror or bigger things like having someone pull out on you while you are riding in the rain-(yeah I kind of know about these two). Unless you are in a hurry-(and that's OK..LOL..we have all been there)-you might want to check out the used market, tons of great deals out there and this time of year (and economy) they will only get better.

Best of luck and enjoy whatever you bring home,
Doug

If it were me, I would buy brand new, not used. Never know how the used bike has been treated. I know its a buyers market now but that goes for new bikes as well. Dealers in my area are going almost $2,000 below MSRP on some models. Wont get a new bike cheaper than now. Good luck and get the bike YOU want!!! JMHO

As said already if your budget can handle it there is something about a new bike it's all yours no other hands on it. The only trouble is you will get a little sick when you see a chip or mark but heck I got mine used and I feel a little sick when washing it and I see the little things.
I have been on bikes all my life and once bitten it never leaves you. I love to ride!!!
Enjoy whichever you pick use your training and ride ride ride.
Good luck

Oh yeah I forgot to say something about that. Don't forget there are two types of riders...people that drop their bikes and people that haven't dropped their bikes..yet. It happens to all of us at one point or another. Be it in a parking lot, turning around on a sandy road, or as part of a domino affect... at a stop sign... on a hill with a new rider at one end. How embarrassing.
