geez I'm in a real pickle here and noone even bothered to read my thread. ABS anyone. surely someone out there knows someone whos used a ABS dash on there custom build.
Looks like you had some action and responses also. Maybe no one knows about plastic dashes. I know I dont.
The answers dont always come right away. I wish a plastic dash was my biggest problem.
Ah thanks deadman, atleast I didn't get completely skunked. Its more about the cost of what I need in a cast dash. I'M NOT CHEAP, but with stretched tanks paying for a 1 piece that goes all the way to the seat is, well, a bit more than my reasonably acceptable wife will allow, hehe. and I hate always having that ugly gap in my 2 piece dash.
I work for a company that makes abs dash and console components for cars. First the base part is molded, then an "applique" (chrome) is put onto one side of the mold, then the applique and base part are thermally fused together in a mold. We had so many problems with this part that you wouldn't believe it. I'm talking (fake) chrome over a black part. Eventually we got out of that contract because the scrap rate just got out of control. Buyer was fussy about bubbles, dust under the applique, etc. We special made a clean room around the press to satisfy them, but to now avail. In my mind abs is not the way to go. Save up and have someone fab you up one that you like. The guys in our tool room make some pretty cool stuff when they're doing government work. Should'nt be too hard to find someone to fix you up. Guess I could have responded sooner, but just not into anymore plastic than I already have.

thanks man, my intuition was correct I think. I'm actually a fabricator( and quite good at it, humbly stated) but I try to incorporate a blend of original with my custom builds and well I like it when people have to find the less obvious, then a obvious like a dash. I could fab something and have it chromed, but I think it would be a billboard effect. I'm leaning I guess towards a road king dash, with a fabricated lower or a 1 piece softail dashthat isn't all bling. wonder if a 2000 dash would mate to my split tanks
Hi, man. I had the lower dash extension that was chrome ABS on my '06 Heritage
softail in my sig pic. I thought it would look better than that stupid looking black
rubber one that was stock. I do not buy accessories that aren't Harley, but they
do not offer this item. This item seemed to hold up well, even if it was plastic. I
kept a good coat of wax on it so there would be no scratches.
sugarbear, to each his own, but you are getting hosed by only buying harley accessories. I mean, that's one of the things that's so great about harley's. There is a crap load of aftermarket parts available.
oh, to the OP, check out Klock Werks, they have some cool dashes that look very custom.
