As an FXD owner the past 7 years, I'm always tempted to upgrade. I'm 6' 1" and made my ride fit me. I will be replacing the shocks and adding to the 56,000 miles I've already put on the odo. Regardless, you can't go wrong with either. For me, conming back to the sport after several year absence, the Dyna was the best choice. Based on my riding habits, it still is.
I think that in the end no matter how many riders reply the opinions will boil down to what I've seen so far:
Dyna: more nimble, lighter, a bit quicker.
Fat Boy: heavier, a smoother more solid ride, a bit more roomy.
This. They are both great bikes.
If you are going to be stuck in traffic and need agility, as well as a sporty ride, get the dyna. I had one and loved it.
At the end of the day though, the Fatboy is like owning a plush Cadillac. It handles well, but is not as nimble as the dyna. If feels a whole lot better though. There will be a noticeable difference in how tired you will be between being on a dyna all day of a Fatboy all day. As others say, the Fatboy is better going 2-up.
While there is no wrong answer, I'm older now and prefer the Cadillac ride.
