Craftsman lift owners?

I bought a new Craftsman lift last night (the red one) and haven’t even had time
too assemble it yet, but I have a question? Do I or don't I need to buy the
special adapters that mount to the bottom of the frame on Softails? It looks like
they raise the bike by extending the space between the bottom of the frame
bottom of the shocks while the bike is on the lift. I don’t want to do any damage
to the shocks or the bike but do I really need the “extenders”?

I have the yellow Craftsmen, as the red one is too high for a Deluxe (tried the red first and it didn't work). It will work fine if you line it up just in front of the shocks, although it's a little back heavy. OK for turning the bike around in the garage. If I'm doing any kind of work, I got the orange frame protectors from HD like listed above - they're only about $15. Works great

also check this out: MAL-2
They're low profile, 2 1/2" collapsed (5 1/2" w/ included adapter).

and if you got the money for style:

I've been lifting my '00 FLSTC for 6 years with no adaptors without any problems yet. I say lift away.

Well, Last night I got curious as to how much trouble it was going to be to get my Deluxe on this red Craftsman lift. I rolled it up to the right side of the bike and you guess it, it didn't even come close to sliding under. I got to thinking about the situation and reading about everyone else's experience's with getting their Deluxe’s on the jack. It seems the only way to get under the bike was to go though all kinds of "tricks" i.e. 2X4 under the jiffy, balance the bike in the upright position with one hand while I slide the jack under the bike etc.etc.
I wasn't comfortable with any of the solutions so.......... I took it back to Sears and bought the yellow aluminum one. Much better, well worth the extra money! As for the frame protectors, I think I’m going
to buy a pair just to be safe.
