Does anyone know of any major (or minor) differences between the two? Looking to do this by Christmas. Got a better deal on the 09 but not by all that much (800$). Thanks for the input. N1.
Helicoil 5th gear and a greater capacity fuel tank. I was at my local dealer on Saturday and got the shock of my life, unsold new 09 Fatties are going for the same price as the 2010. (Ł15,299 about $30,500) When I pointed this out, the dealer told me it was because the 09's have a better finish. Sounded like BS to me and I told him so, so he calls the manager over and unprompted asked him to explain why the same price, for 09 & 10, the answer I got was 'better finish quality on the 09', still cant see it myself. and I still think its all BS.
I bought an '09' Heritage instead of a '10'. Got a small price break and the fifth gear isn't any problem, especially after the pipes are changed. I've been told the straight cut fifth gear on the '09' is stronger. Designed that way to 'slam' it for passing.

Seems to be the same bike other than paint and the new helical cut 5th gear. The whine has never been that bad on my 07. I guess the degree of whine varies from bike to bike because some guys say it really bothers them and others, like myself, hardly notice it. I'm not aware of any change in fuel capacity from 09 to 10. If you look at the Harley Davidson website both bikes list at 5 gallon fuel capacity. The touring bikes however went to 6 gallon tanks in 08.

No change in fuel capacity, from 09 to 10, just 5th gear cut is only change that I am aware of.
Better finish on the '09's, what a load of Dealer BS. I can see it now, the H-D factory is gearing to switch model years, "OK guys, finish up those '09's real nice, and then start slapping those '10's together, don't be too fussy now....."

Just checked the web site, (UK), 09 Fatties fuel capacity 18.9 L, 2010 fuel capacity 19.7L., however the US website show's 5 gal for both years, bizzar, the tanks capacity has increased in ltr capacity but not gal.
Sorry Guys, this is going to sound sad, Just got off the phone from another dealer, some one I have never visited. Told him I was looking at buying a Fatboy but had concerns over my dealer selling 2009 Fat boys at the same price as the 2010, his reply was to go for the 2009 model as the finish is better. Are international models different to US, I know the Japanese send bikes to Europe with thicker paint and detuned engines in some cases, is Harley doing the same or is this more dealer BS, or Harley UK spin to sell off 2009 bikes ?
