Default Replacing inner primary cover w/chrome

Hello.

Has anyone replaced this... How difficult is it to replace the existing inner primary cover with a chrome unit? The HD dealer wants $330 in labor since its a 3hr job!! Any trick to the job? Is it straight forward - unscew part and replace with chrome. considering the oil and seals have oit be changed?

2005 Softail Springer

Thanks for the fedback!

Just buy a chrome cover and install yourself. Hell of a lot cheaper and looks great also.

How mechanically oriented are you??? Do you have the proper tools? That piece would be a "no bolt on" in my skills because I don't have all the required tools... I wouldn't want to leave a "loose nut" in there.

Mimo.

i did my 3" primary install and IMO its easy. Just get a primary chain chock block and do it. If you really take your time it might take you 6 hrs. Either way just take it easy and feel good knowing that you did it yourself.

Did it on my Evo FXST, have to pull the clutch hub and the entire primary drive, big job. I had to do it when I snapped my rear drive belt, so chromed the inner primary when I had the chance.

If you want a chrome look, Kuryakyn and others make a 'bolt-on' chrome cover, it'll cost a lot less than doing it properly.

it IS a time consuming job but can be done with the rite tools(a good jack stand is an absolute!!) it took me about 4-5 hours and a bit of patience.getting the starter off was my toughest part.as for covers, ive seen em on bikes and i personally dont like the look.you could also check on indy wrenches in your area for prices .just my take on it
