Soldering really is the most reliable way to do it. Slip a heat wrap on it first... solder the wires, and shrink the wrap over it. Done. Pretty much fail safe forever.
The easiest way is to order a new set of hand control switches as they come already crimped and should be plenty long for your apes.
HD part # 70239-07 Its like $150 and you keep your stock ones just incase you ever decide to go back.
I got a new set for my Night Train and instead of cutting the wires and having to crimp. I just tucked the extra wires inside the square frame that runs under the tank and the extra wires are protected and cant be seen.
The kit already comes with the crimps on the ends just like OE, but also comes with new crimps incase you want to shorten the wires.

I was fortunate to use my buddies crimp tool from his shop. Made my own extenders.
But, if a local shop or a HD shop was to do it, they would be cutting and soldering.
I like crimping and shrink wrap. I think either way, you will be fine. Look up the proper way to make solder joints, and away you go...
I once rewired a friends bike and what I did was that I used a small needle nose plier to bend the crimp over the wire and then put a small drop of solder in the middle. Key word is small. Enough where it didnt need any heat shrink and was protected by the switch housing and rubber grommet that the switch already has.
