If you go to RB Racing they have a Rake and Trail Calculator at the bottom of the page or you can download software to calculate it at Motorcycle Metal.

If you really want trees and fork tubes like that, your alternatives to do it so that you can ride safely are basically Seeger Cycle's product or to actually cut the frame and change the rake built in to the frame.

Like I said, A Bike needs 4-7inches of trail. A little less than that may still be rideable but not very safe. 1.37 inches of trail would just be a very scary thing. Someone may have done it in the past but I will bet it wasn't for very long. I personally do not think you would be able to turn at all. If you look at my photo albums, you will see that I have some experience with building raked choppers.

I would listen up to these guys, there is one thing that every biker really fears, sudden, uncontrollable front end wobble at high speed, it starts out feeling a little loose, then instantly goes into a full blown level 100 pucker factor, and if you pull out of it you will have performed a miricle that Jesus would be proud of, and if you dont pull out of it, you will perform another miricle by walking away.
I raced Motocross in my younger days, and have experienced uncontrolled front end wobble and it was nothing i would like to experience at highway speeds. forget cool, figure out a way to do it SAFELY.

if u really want the raked look of a front end

the best bet is going to be physically raking the frame, cut the neck and move it outwards, gotta know a damn good welder tho

sounds alot more scarier, but the trail problem wouldnt be there as it would if u put raked trees

and also

have u ridden a bike with such a big rake before?

Thats why i brought this thread here. Im FAR from an expert and really want the look of a rake but want to keep it safe. ALL of you have been a BIG help. I emailed the boys at Seeger Cycle's for advice on a kit. I hope it pans out as i really want the look but if i cant do it safe i wont do it at all. Thanks again for all the input!

These guys are right on with their knowledge on raking trees versus the frame etc. Use the calculators and do it the right way. This bike I built below was 40 in the neck and 5 in the trees. Was very easy to handle and the trees helped to bring that trail number down. My trail was around 4 inches when all said and done so raked trees do have a good purpose when used properly. Before I chopped the bike up it was flat out 38 in the neck and was a bear at slow speeds with about 7 inches of trail but was very stable at high speed. Give me too much trail ANY day over too little. There are kits out there that supposedly keep the trail correct. However I have no idea how they work.
