Got one for christmas and was just wondering if anyone has installed one of these kits. If I am reading the destuctions correctlly it tells you to take forks of the bike. I was wondering why cant you just loosen the pinch bolts and slide them down out of the top tree so you can get the cap off and put it in. Anyone done this??
Never mind i think I figured it out. The reason you have to drop the forks is because the hole in the upper tripple clamp is not big enough for the spring to slide through.
My buddy was talking about getting these for his SG and I offered to help him on the install. He also is under the impression that the forks stay on the bike.
I think that they call it a drop in because you actually dont have to disassemble the entire forks themselves. With a traditional lowering kit a spring is added below the piston that raises the piston itself in the fork tube. The drop in type just replaces the main spring with a shorter spring main spring and a secondary light spring that compresses when the weight of the bike is on it lowering the bike. I am no expert but I think that this is how it all works.

So you still save the labor of pulling the lowers off of the tubes.
Okay. I get it.

I will be following this thread for more info.
I just did the front on my Deluxe last week.
Here is the link to my post. The Drop in front lowering kit is a little harder (Alot harder really) than advertised. However you can keep the forks on the bike and loosen the pinch bolt and let the tubes drop down far enough to install the springs. However do yourself a favor and take the front tire off to make it easier to push the tubes back up in the tree when finished. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-pictures.html
