Now the first thing you might want to check out is the Softail Standard pic thread.
That's where you'll find a ton of good ideas on what can and has been done to standards.
And don't forget the Nightrain and Custom pic treads as well, because what fits on them will fit on yours too.

Now ride it safe and get the hell off the road before dark, there's way too many damn fool drunks on the road after dark on New Years Eve for my taste.

I swapped my stock Fat Boy seat for a Standard seat - of course, I had Mean City cut it down and put in memory foam first. well worth the 100 bucks!

Congrats, You will have a blast adding to your bike. As for going any distance, I rode with three road kings and a road glide to sturgis from Sacramento Ca. and it was smooth sailing. 6 speeds makes a huge difference.

Hell yea man, glad to hear you picked it up! My standard has been in a steady conversion to a Night train look. As Cito said, check out those pic threads. The Night Train thread grows by the day. I haven't been over to the standard pic thread in a while, after I joined up the progress on it seemed to slow down.

Here's the link to the Night Train thread to save ya some time. Theres so many good posts and pics it'll melt your brain!
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-pictures.html

As far as long rides go, I rode my standard with mini apes, forward controls and no windshield or bags from Mobile, AL to Ft Wayne, IN - 980 miles straight. I was amazed at what an easy ride it was. Started with a half shell but brought a full face along in case of rain. I ended up riding in a thunderstorm from Huntsville through to Louisville . . . but for some reason I didnt even care, I was just having an amazing time with my ride. Theres a GI duffle bag in that trash bag with the handle looped over my short sissy bar and bungies crossed back and forth. I packed half clothes from the bottom, then a helmet, then the rest of the clothes I needed. Even some towels just to take up some space. It made for a really nice lumbar/back rest for the ride.

lol I was like a wet rat when I got there, luckily it was fairly warm out.
congrats on the new bike man!
